The Schleswig-Holstein State Criminal Police Office (LKA) is currently investigating reports of drone sightings above the Bundeswehr site in Schwesing, near Husum. A spokesperson for the LKA confirmed that they are looking into incidents reported by the Bundeswehr, indicating that the investigation has been officially initiated.

According to a spokesperson from the Bundeswehr's Operational Command, the drones were sighted and reported in January. These drones, believed to be sophisticated models, were reportedly able to evade countermeasures such as jamming devices.

A report by the Süddeutsche Zeitung, citing a confidential document from the Ministry of Defense, suggests that the drones may have been deployed for espionage purposes. However, a representative from the Flensburg Public Prosecutor's Office stated that there is currently no evidence to suggest any criminal activity.

Roderich Kiesewetter, a defense expert from the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), expressed suspicion that the drones could be linked to Russian operations. He posited that this development might be intended to intimidate Germany and provide Russia with enhanced intelligence regarding the situation on the ground. Kiesewetter emphasized that Germany remains significantly behind in both drone technology and defense capabilities.

Additionally, it has been reported that Ukrainian soldiers are receiving training on Patriot missile systems at the Schwesing facility, further highlighting the strategic importance of the site.

In related news, discussions continue within Germany regarding defense spending, with a recent call for an increase of 30 billion euros for defense budgets starting in 2028. As tensions mount in the region, the implications of these drone sightings and the ongoing military training initiatives are under close scrutiny.
