Ludwigsburg authorities are making progress in their investigation into an alleged illegal car race that resulted in a tragic accident claiming the lives of two women. Following the incident, which occurred on Thursday evening, one suspect has been apprehended, while another has been identified but remains at large.

According to a police spokesperson, the second individual, linked to the crash, has been identified but has not yet been taken into custody. This suspect is believed to have driven a second vehicle involved in the incident and is under investigation for participating in the illegal race prior to the collision.

As the investigation unfolds, the Ludwigsburg police and the Stuttgart public prosecutor's office have announced that they are actively pursuing leads regarding the second suspect. The task force, designated as "Urban," is expanding its efforts to verify the accusations against this individual.

The car crash occurred when one of the vehicles allegedly involved in the race collided with a car driven by a 23-year-old woman who was exiting a gas station. The impact was severe, causing her vehicle to be thrown against trees, resulting in the tragic deaths of both the driver and her 22-year-old passenger, who died at the scene. The suspect who was arrested, a 32-year-old man of Turkish descent, sustained minor injuries during the incident and has been charged with multiple counts of manslaughter due to the unlawful car racing.

Legal experts indicate that under German law, the penalties for illegal street racing that leads to fatalities can range from one to ten years in prison. Authorities are working diligently to gather evidence and witness testimonies to construct a comprehensive account of the events leading up to the crash.

While one suspect is in custody, it's not uncommon in the German legal system for investigations to continue without all suspects being detained. A suspect may remain free if there is not enough evidence to warrant pre-trial detention, which typically requires a significant risk of flight or the possibility of evidence tampering.

The investigation is ongoing, and the police urge anyone with information related to the incident to come forward. They are particularly interested in hearing from witnesses who may have seen the vehicles involved prior to the crash or anyone who has information about the second suspect.
