Increased Efficiency at BER: 1.2 Million Passengers Expected During Easter

Wed 9th Apr, 2025

The Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) is preparing for an influx of travelers during the upcoming Easter holidays, with estimates suggesting more than 1.2 million passengers will pass through its terminals. The busiest period is anticipated over the Easter weekend, with approximately 300,000 individuals expected to travel from Good Friday to Easter Monday.

To enhance efficiency at security checks, the airport has recently implemented advanced scanning technology in Terminal 1. This development is expected to significantly reduce waiting times. Travelers will no longer need to remove electronic devices and liquids from their bags during security screenings, allowing for a streamlined process.

According to airport officials, the new scanners will enable the processing of approximately 50% more passengers per hour compared to previous capabilities. This improvement is part of ongoing efforts to enhance the travel experience for passengers at BER.

The transition to these new security measures has been in progress since late 2024, with complete installation anticipated in the southern section of the main terminal before the holiday period. Following the Easter break, upgrades will continue in the northern terminal area, while Terminal 2 has already been equipped with these scanners since early last year, resulting in significantly reduced wait times.

While the new scanning process will expedite screenings, travelers should remain aware of existing restrictions on liquids. Passengers are still limited to carrying containers of no more than 100 milliliters, with a total volume not exceeding one liter.
