In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, law enforcement officials in Hessen have dismantled a drug operation involving three individuals, seizing narcotics valued at approximately EUR5 million. The operation, executed on April 23 and 24, targeted locations in Frankfurt and the surrounding districts of Groß-Gerau, Main-Kinzig, and Rheingau-Taunus.

The haul included:

  • 350 kilograms of marijuana
  • Over 200 kilograms of amphetamines (commonly known as 'speed')
  • 186 liters of codeine
  • Additional quantities of various other drugs
  • EUR50,000 in cash believed to be from drug sales

The suspects, aged between 22 and 29 and originating from Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina, were apprehended during these well-coordinated raids. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether they have prior criminal records or are known to law enforcement.

According to a statement from the Wiesbaden Public Prosecutor's Office, the process of verifying their backgrounds is complicated by their status as foreign nationals, which requires inquiries with relevant authorities. This process is expected to take some time.

The drugs were discovered hidden in several locations, including concealed compartments within refrigerators, moving boxes, and various containers. The investigation, which involved meticulous surveillance and intelligence gathering, traced the drugs from an abandoned house to multiple storage sites across the Rhein-Main region.

In addition to the narcotics, authorities also confiscated money counting machines and counterfeit currency. Following their arrest, all three suspects have been placed in pre-trial detention as ordered by a Wiesbaden judge.

The operation was led by the Wiesbaden Public Prosecutor's Office in conjunction with the Joint Drug Enforcement Unit of Hessen, which comprises members from the customs authority and the state criminal police. The operation received additional support from special task forces.
