A serious traffic accident occurred at the exit of the A2 motorway near Herten, resulting in life-threatening injuries for a 58-year-old woman.
According to preliminary reports, the woman was stopped in her vehicle at a red traffic light, alongside a 52-year-old man driving a truck. For reasons that remain unclear, a collision happened when the light turned green, causing the truck to push the car into the intersection.
In a moment of panic, the driver exited her vehicle from the passenger side, only to be struck by at least one other vehicle.
Emergency responders transported the critically injured woman, a resident of Dortmund, to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment. The truck driver sustained minor injuries in the incident.
The accident investigation team from Recklinghausen has been deployed to gather evidence and reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the collision. The on- and off-ramps of the A2 towards Oberhausen and the Gelsenkirchener Straße were closed until approximately 12:16 PM to facilitate the investigation.
Authorities are appealing to witnesses of the accident to come forward with information. Anyone with relevant details is encouraged to contact the police at (0251) - 2750.
