In Heidelberg, an electric vehicle fire led to the destruction of multiple cars late Wednesday night. The incident occurred on Bunsenstraße, where a parked Renault caught fire, prompting several emergency calls just before midnight.
Witnesses reported that the vehicle initially emitted thick smoke before erupting into flames. The intensity of the fire and subsequent explosive bursts forced local authorities to establish a wide perimeter around the site for safety reasons. The flames rapidly spread to an adjacent vehicle, causing significant damage to a parked Opel and a Volkswagen nearby.
The estimated damage from the incident is still being assessed, but preliminary figures suggest it could reach several tens of thousands of euros. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and surrounding buildings remained unharmed.
The Heidelberg professional fire department took immediate action by relocating the electric vehicle to a specialized container to prevent any potential reignition of the fire. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, with no indications of foul play reported so far. The Heidelberg-Mitte police department is conducting further inquiries into the incident.
