Heathrow Airport in London Closed Entire Friday Due to Power Outage

Fri 21st Mar, 2025

Heathrow Airport, one of the busiest airports in the world, has been forced to remain closed throughout Friday following a significant power outage caused by a fire at a nearby substation. The airport's management announced that operations would be suspended until late Friday evening at 11:59 PM local time for safety reasons.

Passengers traveling to the airport have been advised to refrain from visiting and to contact their respective airlines for further assistance and rescheduling information. The incident has disrupted air travel plans for thousands of individuals, prompting airlines to make necessary adjustments to their flight schedules.

The London Fire Brigade responded promptly to the emergency, dispatching ten fire engines and approximately 70 firefighters to tackle the blaze at the Hayes substation. Reports indicate that the fire not only affected airport operations but also left numerous households in the surrounding area without electricity.

This unprecedented closure highlights the vulnerabilities in infrastructure that can impact critical transportation hubs like Heathrow. Customers are encouraged to stay updated through official channels as the situation develops and as efforts are made to restore normal operations.
