Google Introduces AI-Driven Visual Presentations in NotebookLM

Thu 31st Jul, 2025

Google has enhanced its AI research assistant, NotebookLM, by introducing a new feature called Video Overviews, which allows users to create visual presentations using artificial intelligence.

Previously, Google offered Audio Overviews, which transformed information into a podcast-like format. The new Video Overviews expand on this concept by incorporating visual elements such as images, charts, and illustrations, allowing users to create commentated slideshows.

Video Overviews can be utilized through NotebookLM, which serves as Google's note-taking tool. The AI functions as a host, curating content based on selected themes and sources compiled in a digital notebook. Users can decide whether they want the information presented as an audio podcast or a visual presentation. This feature joins other tools like mind maps, timelines, and FAQs that can also be generated within the platform.

Although the feature is called Video Overviews, it currently does not include AI-generated videos. Users will have to wait for that capability, but Google assures that the presentations are just the initial phase of this development.

The Video Overviews can be tailored to specific topics and learning objectives. Users have the option to define their target audience and can adjust the content to match their knowledge level, making these overviews a valuable learning resource. Once created, these overviews can be shared via public links, enabling collaborative efforts on a notebook.

In a recent announcement, Google mentioned that users can now create multiple outputs of the same type within a single notebook. Furthermore, it is now possible to listen to Audio Overviews while simultaneously working on a project, a convenience not previously available.

Currently, Video Overviews are only offered in English, with plans to introduce additional languages in the near future, as stated in Google's blog post.
