Germany's Military Chief Proposes Comprehensive Conscription Assessment for Young Men

The Chief of Staff of the German Armed Forces has called for a nationwide assessment of all young men to ensure military preparedness in the event of a defense emergency. The highest-ranking officer in the Bundeswehr emphasized that evaluating entire age groups is essential to identify the available pool of potential recruits and to streamline mobilization procedures if necessary.

According to military leadership, conducting comprehensive assessments would provide up-to-date information about who may be eligible for service. This approach is considered crucial for rapid response in crisis situations, as relying on last-minute evaluations during emergencies could lead to significant delays, potentially compromising national security.

The proposal comes amid ongoing discussions regarding the modernization of Germany's conscription system. The military aims to avoid intercepting drones by force, especially over densely populated areas, due to the risk of collateral damage. Instead, the Armed Forces are exploring advanced techniques, such as electronic disruption to alter drone flight paths, taking control of rogue drones, or using nets to capture them. These methods are designed to neutralize threats while minimizing risks to civilians and infrastructure.
