Over 100 Injured in Significant Gas Pipeline Blaze in Malaysia

A major fire ignited by a significant gas pipeline leak has resulted in injuries to over 100 individuals near Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, has prompted emergency responses from local authorities.

The Malaysian fire department reported that approximately 100 people suffered various injuries, with around 60 individuals requiring hospitalization due to burns, respiratory issues, and other related conditions. The gas pipeline, operated by the state energy company Petronas, experienced a leak that extended roughly 500 meters (1,600 feet).

The blaze broke out in Putra Heights, a residential area on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur, during the festive Eid celebrations. Eyewitnesses described the fire as towering over residential neighborhoods, with flames visible from several kilometers away. As the fire spread, at least 49 homes were reported damaged, leading to urgent evacuations.

Authorities confirmed that the valve to the affected pipeline has been closed to mitigate further risks. Rescue operations were carried out as several residents were trapped in their homes, which caught fire due to the incident. Reports indicate that seven residents had to be rescued from their properties.

The Selangor Disaster Management Committee's chairman reported that chaos ensued following a loud explosion, prompting many residents to flee their homes to escape the flames. Emergency services are continuing to assess the situation and provide assistance to those affected.

The incident occurred during a time of celebration, marking the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan. The rapid response from firefighters and emergency personnel has been crucial in managing the situation and ensuring the safety of residents in the vicinity.
