Arson Investigation Leads to Arrest of Four Firefighters in Duisburg

Tue 28th Jan, 2025

Duisburg - In a shocking turn of events, four firefighters are currently in custody following allegations of arson linked to a series of fires in Duisburg, North Rhine-Westphalia. Instead of fulfilling their duty to extinguish fires and assist those in distress, these individuals are accused of being responsible for multiple incendiary incidents.

Authorities conducted searches at the homes of the suspects over the weekend to gather evidence supporting the claims against them. As a result of the investigation, the public prosecutor's office sought arrest warrants, leading to the apprehension of the four men, who are now being held in pre-trial detention.

The firefighters, who are all affiliated with the volunteer fire brigade, are implicated in a significant blaze that occurred at a riding stable in Bergheim. In the early hours of January 2, a hay storage area was engulfed in flames, resulting in the destruction of 800 hay bales and causing damage estimated in the six-figure range.

Subsequent investigations revealed a possible connection to a fire that occurred on December 29 in Friemersheim, just five kilometers away, where 55 hay bales were also set ablaze. Authorities had suspected arson in that case as well.

As the investigation continues, it remains uncertain whether the arrested firefighters are linked to additional fires in the area. Details surrounding the motives for their alleged criminal activities have yet to be disclosed.
