First Patch for 'Oblivion Remastered' Released After Long Wait

Fri 6th Jun, 2025

After a prolonged period of anticipation, the first patch for 'Oblivion Remastered' has been officially released. The update, designated as Version 1.1, is now available as a beta on Steam, marking a critical step in addressing various issues that have plagued the game since its launch.

Upon its release, 'Oblivion Remastered' was met with a myriad of technical difficulties, including significant bugs and performance hiccups. Players expressed frustration over the lack of communication from the developers, Bethesda and Virtuos, as weeks passed without any indication that solutions were being pursued.

The newly released patch aims to rectify some of the most pressing problems, such as frequent crashes, freezing issues, and prolonged loading screens. Bethesda has provided a detailed list of patch notes on their website, which includes fixes for notable gameplay issues, like the malfunctioning third-person animation when mounting horses. Additionally, players will now find that the local map opens automatically in dungeons and indoor areas, rather than the world map.

As it currently stands, Patch 1.1 is exclusively available on Steam in beta format. To access it, users must right-click on the game in their Steam library, select 'Properties,' and navigate to the 'Betas' tab to choose the 'beta - beta' option. A finalized version of this patch is anticipated to roll out for all platforms by June 11, which will eliminate the need for these additional steps on Steam. However, players are advised that installed mods may not function correctly post-update.

Moreover, Bethesda has indicated that the 'Oblivion Remastered' team is concurrently working on a second patch to enhance overall performance. While specific details remain scarce, there is recognized potential for improvement. Players have reported low frame rates even with reduced graphics settings, as well as inconsistent frame pacing that leads to noticeable stuttering during gameplay. Bethesda has assured users that more details will be provided as development progresses on this second patch.
