Final Beta Release of Android 16 Scheduled for Today

Thu 17th Apr, 2025

Google is set to release the fourth and final beta version of Android 16 today, marking a significant step towards the completion of this latest operating system iteration. The development of Android 16 began earlier than previous versions, and despite this, the project remains on track according to the development team.

The third beta version of Android 16, released in mid-March, achieved platform stability, allowing developers to finalize the necessary compatibility updates for their applications intended for this new OS. Since then, Google has introduced two minor updates--Beta 3.1 and 3.2--aimed at resolving various bugs and enhancing system stability.

While the upcoming fourth beta version is not expected to introduce major new features, users can anticipate improvements in system stability and additional bug fixes. One possible enhancement might be the activation of the "Live Activities" feature, which is designed to provide real-time updates on delivery times and ride-hailing services directly on the lock screen and notification bar. This feature was hinted at with an Easter egg included in the previous beta version.

More comprehensive announcements regarding Android 16 features may be reserved for the upcoming developer conference I/O, scheduled for May 20-21, 2025. This event could unveil new themes and design elements that align with Material Design 3.

The final version of Android 16 is anticipated to launch in June, with Google's Pixel devices likely being the first to receive the update, followed by devices from other manufacturers. However, various companies, including Xiaomi and OnePlus, have already begun offering pre-release versions for select models. Reports suggest that Samsung is planning to release its Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7, featuring One UI 8 based on Android 16, in July, indicating a potentially faster rollout compared to previous versions.
