A tragic incident occurred in Austria involving a German tourist who succumbed to injuries sustained in a sledding accident. The 41-year-old man from Baden-Württemberg was vacationing in the Schladming ski area with friends when the accident took place on February 7.

The group had spent the evening at a mountain lodge, where they consumed a significant amount of alcohol. As they attempted to return to the valley, one of their sleds slipped away, prompting the men to chase after it. However, they were not equipped appropriately for the descent; they were wearing only sneakers, which proved inadequate for the snowy terrain.

The police reported that the area they chose for sledding was not designated for such activities. During the descent, the man lost control of his sled and collided with a side barrier approximately 40 centimeters high. This impact resulted in severe head injuries.

A ski tourer discovered the injured man on the slope, administered first aid, and called for emergency services. Unfortunately, after nearly two weeks of medical care, he passed away due to the severity of his injuries.

This incident serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers associated with alcohol consumption in outdoor activities and the importance of adhering to safety guidelines while engaging in winter sports.
