In Frankfurt (Oder), a World War II bomb has been discovered near the city center, prompting the evacuation of a residential area. Authorities have announced that approximately 2,250 residents will need to leave their homes to facilitate the safe disarmament of the explosive device.

The bomb, identified as a potentially 250-kilogram fragmentation bomb from the Second World War, necessitates extensive safety precautions. According to a city spokesperson, the evacuation will commence on Wednesday, with the disarmament scheduled to begin at 8:00 AM. Residents will be prohibited from entering the affected area starting at 7:00 AM.

This evacuation impacts various local facilities, including a medical center, supermarkets, the Kleist Forum theater, and a multi-generational housing complex. Several streets in the vicinity will also be closed during this period.

Officials have reassured the public that there is no immediate danger to residents. However, the evacuation is a precautionary measure aimed at ensuring the safety of the community while the bomb is rendered safe.

Brandenburg, where Frankfurt (Oder) is located, has been identified as a region with a significant number of unexploded ordnance remnants from past conflicts, making the discovery of such devices a matter of public safety concern.
