Eurowings Expands Long-Haul Services at Berlin Airport BER

Mon 3rd Mar, 2025

Berlin's BER Airport is set to enhance its long-haul offerings as Eurowings announces a new direct route to Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. Starting November 3, the airline will operate flights three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. This development comes just ahead of the ITB tourism fair in Berlin, marking a significant step in the airport's international service expansion.

The outbound flight to Abu Dhabi is expected to take approximately six hours and 15 minutes, with return flights scheduled for Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, which will take about seven hours. In addition to the new Abu Dhabi route, Eurowings is increasing its frequency to Dubai, another major city in the UAE. Beginning October 26, the airline will offer daily flights to Dubai, ramping up to eleven flights per week by November 4, adding four additional flights to the schedule.

In the upcoming winter season, Eurowings will provide two daily flights from BER to the UAE, including:

  • Abu Dhabi (AUH): Three times a week starting November 3, 2025
  • Dubai (DXB): Daily flights starting October 26, 2025
  • Dubai (DWC): Four times a week starting November 4, 2025
  • Jeddah (JED): Two times a week starting November 3, 2025
  • Doha (DOH): Daily flights with Qatar Airways

Furthermore, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, will continue to be served by Eurowings with two weekly nonstop flights on Mondays and Fridays. Qatar Airways also maintains a daily service from BER to Doha, which has been operational since the old Tegel Airport days.

Despite the promising expansion, BER has faced challenges in establishing itself as a major international hub, with many airlines opting for Frankfurt and Munich instead. Local political and business leaders have pushed for improvements to enhance the airport's appeal as a long-haul destination. The new route to Abu Dhabi is expected to bolster tourism and economic ties between Berlin and the Gulf region.

Eurowings' leadership expressed confidence in the success of the new Abu Dhabi route, emphasizing the potential for growth in connections between the capital and key markets in the Middle East.
