The Edeka Group has achieved a historic milestone, reporting an unprecedented revenue of EUR75.3 billion in its 118-year history. This figure represents a significant increase of EUR4.6 billion or 6.5% compared to the previous year, as announced by the company's headquarters in Hamburg.

Independent retailers within the cooperative network contributed approximately EUR40.8 billion to this total, marking an increase of 3.9% from the prior year. Additionally, Edeka's discount chain, Netto, also saw growth, with revenues climbing 2.7% to EUR17.6 billion. However, the company has not disclosed specific profit figures.

The total number of grocery stores operated by Edeka stands at nearly 10,900, which includes around 4,400 Netto locations. Edeka claims the title of the largest private employer in Germany, with approximately 413,000 employees, an increase of 2,300 from the previous year, serving around 13 million customers daily. The number of apprentices remained stable at 19,240 for both Edeka and Netto.

Markus Mosa, the CEO of Edeka Zentrale Stiftung & Co. KG, highlighted the company's commitment to investment, stating that nearly EUR3 billion was allocated towards infrastructure, digitalization, and sustainability initiatives in the past year. Edeka and Netto have set an ambitious goal to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by 90% by 2045, compared to 2022 levels.

Furthermore, the company expressed satisfaction with the introduction of its new loyalty program, Payback, initiated earlier this year. Mosa noted that all performance indicators for the program exceeded expectations, confirming the strategic decision to adopt Payback. Notably, in January alone, the number of Payback users welcomed in Edeka stores surpassed the total number of users previously registered with the Deutschlandcard over an entire year.
