Dertour Reports Significant Growth with 31% Increase in Winter Travelers

Tue 13th May, 2025

The travel operator Dertour has announced a remarkable increase in winter tourism, reporting a 31% rise in guest numbers compared to the previous year. This growth, as stated by the company, is partly attributed to a shift in market dynamics following the previous winter season.

In June of last year, FTI, the third-largest travel operator after Tui and Dertour, declared bankruptcy and subsequently canceled all pre-booked trips. As a result, Dertour anticipates an influx of approximately 400,000 additional visitors, according to its management.

Looking ahead to the upcoming winter season, Dertour has already noted a substantial number of bookings. Projections indicate a further 22% increase in guests for the winter of 2025/2026, with the most significant growth expected from destinations such as Egypt, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates.

Last winter, travelers predominantly opted for short- to medium-haul destinations, with the most popular locations being:

  • Spain
  • Egypt
  • Turkey
  • Germany
  • Poland

There has also been a marked increase in the demand for personalized travel experiences, with a reported 58% rise in bookings for customized trips. Travelers are increasingly seeking tailored experiences that cater to their personal interests and preferences.

Furthermore, the desire for luxury accommodations remains strong among travelers. Over a third of the holidaymakers (34%) chose five-star hotels, while nearly half (51%) opted for four-star accommodations. In contrast, bookings for three-star hotels have decreased to 15%.

In terms of trip duration, the average length for long-haul travel was consistent at 13 days, while medium-haul vacations averaged 10 days, reflecting a one-day decrease from the previous year.
