Dell Enhances Security for PowerProtect Data Manager and Laptops Against Potential Threats

Wed 30th Apr, 2025

In a recent development, Dell has taken proactive measures to address security vulnerabilities in its PowerProtect Data Manager and various laptop models. The company has identified multiple security flaws that could potentially be exploited by attackers.

According to Dell's advisory, vulnerabilities exist in the PowerProtect Data Manager due to weaknesses in third-party components such as Golang and Spring Framework, as well as flaws within the application itself. If successfully targeted, these vulnerabilities may allow attackers with local access and low-level permissions to escalate their privileges, posing a significant security risk.

To mitigate these threats, Dell has released updates that resolve these issues in PowerProtect Data Manager version 19.19.0-15.

Additionally, several laptop models equipped with Qualcomm chipset drivers are also at risk due to a series of vulnerabilities. These include CVE-2025-530033 and CVE-2025-530034, both classified as high risk. Attackers could exploit these vulnerabilities to induce memory errors, resulting in system crashes and potentially enabling the execution of malicious code. Dell has recommended updating to driver version 2.1.0.30 to address these security concerns.

As of now, there have been no reports indicating that these vulnerabilities have been actively exploited by malicious actors. Nevertheless, Dell urges users to apply the necessary updates to ensure their systems remain secure against potential cyber threats.
