Berlin - A police officer was reportedly assaulted during New Year's Eve celebrations in 2023/2024 outside the former residence of the Remmo family in Neukölln. Nemer Remmo, a 21-year-old member of the well-known family, is set to face trial for the incident. The proceedings are scheduled to begin on February 13 at the youth court, with charges including assaulting law enforcement, bodily harm, and resistance to arrest, according to court spokesperson Lisa Jani. This trial is open to the public. On New Year's Eve, around 12:15 AM, a 15-year-old relative of the Remmo family allegedly ran into the street without paying attention to oncoming traffic, resulting in her being struck by a police vehicle. The girl, who is the daughter of the clan leader, sustained head and torso injuries and was taken to Vivantes Hospital in Neukölln. Following the accident, Nemer Remmo is said to have reacted aggressively. According to police reports, he approached the police vehicle and forcibly opened the door before striking the officer seated inside multiple times. He initially fled the scene but was later apprehended. The injured officer also required medical treatment due to the assault. In late January 2024, law enforcement conducted a raid on the Remmo family villa as part of the investigation into the New Year's Eve incident. This extensive operation involved numerous officers and aimed to gather evidence related to the case. Police utilized a drone to capture aerial footage and meticulously documented the accident scene from various angles. A forensic expert measured the area with specialized equipment, and it was reported that the incident had been recorded by the girl's smartphone. The trial against Nemer Remmo will continue on February 17, with significant public interest surrounding the proceedings due to the family's notorious reputation. The case highlights ongoing concerns about crime and public safety within certain communities in Berlin, particularly in relation to the activities of organized crime groups such as the Remmos. As the legal process unfolds, authorities remain vigilant in addressing the challenges posed by such groups, while also ensuring that justice is served in cases involving assaults on law enforcement personnel. The outcome of this trial could have broader implications for community relations and crime prevention efforts in the region.
