Extended Travel Times: Construction Delays Train Service from Hannover to Berlin

Fri 4th Apr, 2025

Train travelers between Hannover, Berlin, and North Rhine-Westphalia should prepare for longer journeys due to ongoing construction works by Deutsche Bahn. The travel time between Hannover and Berlin is expected to increase by approximately 45 minutes, as confirmed by the railway company.

The construction is taking place on the railway line between the capital city and Hannover, specifically affecting the sections between Rathenow and Staffelde in Brandenburg, where overhead line work is being conducted. Additionally, work on bridges will impact services on weekends between Wolfsburg and Stendal. Consequently, these sections will be closed until April 14.

During this period, train services will experience various disruptions, including partial cancellations and route changes between Hannover or Braunschweig and Berlin. Notably, no long-distance trains will stop in Wolfsburg while the construction is ongoing. Furthermore, several stops will be eliminated, including those at Stendal, Berlin-Spandau, Berlin Central Station, Berlin Südkreuz, and Berlin Ostbahnhof.

In lieu of these stops, some trains will temporarily halt in Magdeburg and Potsdam, while additional services will stop in Braunschweig. Notably, certain high-speed trains, including the ICE line 9 from Bonn via Cologne and Hannover to Berlin, as well as ICE line 14 from Aachen through Cologne and Hannover to Berlin, will not operate during this period.

Travelers are advised to check the actual departure and arrival times before their journey to avoid any inconvenience. The railway company emphasizes the importance of staying informed about the changes to ensure a smooth travel experience.
