Condor Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Italy Due to Engine Issue

Sun 17th Aug, 2025

A Condor flight traveling from Corfu to Düsseldorf was forced to make an emergency landing in Brindisi, Italy, on Saturday evening following a technical issue that resulted in flames being visible from the aircraft's engine.

According to reports from witnesses, a loud noise was heard prior to the incident, and flames were spotted emanating from the engine. Condor clarified that, while flames were visible, there was no engine fire. The situation arose from a combustion process occurring outside the engine, leading to brief bursts of flames being observed.

Videos circulating on social media depict fire shooting from the turbine, though fortunately, no injuries were reported among the 273 passengers and eight crew members on board. A spokesperson for Condor confirmed the incident on Sunday morning, stating that the pilot had communicated with air traffic control, indicating that the aircraft was capable of continuing to fly. The plane then traversed the Adriatic Sea, landing in Brindisi, which is approximately 200 kilometers from its intended destination.

Upon landing, due to limited hotel availability in Brindisi, some passengers were required to remain at the airport overnight, where blankets and meal vouchers were provided. Others were accommodated in local hotels. Condor has stated that passengers who incurred costs for alternative accommodations can submit their expenses for reimbursement. The airline expressed its apologies for the inconvenience caused by the incident.

As the aircraft undergoes maintenance, arrangements were made to transport affected passengers back to Düsseldorf via a replacement flight on Sunday morning. The original flight was scheduled to arrive in Düsseldorf at 21:35 on Saturday evening.
