Cinema for Peace Foundation Honors Bob Geldof for Charity Work

Mon 17th Feb, 2025

The Cinema for Peace Foundation is set to honor renowned Irish singer and activist Bob Geldof during a gala event aimed at raising funds for charitable causes. The ceremony will take place at the prestigious Adlon Hotel near the Brandenburg Gate.

Bob Geldof, best known for his significant contributions to humanitarian efforts through music, gained international recognition over four decades ago with the release of the iconic song 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' This song was part of the Band-Aid initiative, which has reportedly raised over £140 million (approximately EUR168 million) for various charitable projects.

In addition to Geldof, the gala will also recognize other notable individuals, including Spanish actor Antonio Banderas, celebrated for his role in 'Pain and Glory,' and fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg. The event is designed to celebrate filmmakers who highlight pressing social issues through their work.

Since its inception in 2001, the Cinema for Peace gala has served as a platform to acknowledge and support engaged filmmakers. Although the timing of the gala coincides with the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale), it operates independently from the festival itself. Each year, the event attracts prominent figures from the film industry who come together to support charitable initiatives through their donations.

This year's gathering promises to be a significant occasion, reflecting the ongoing commitment of the Cinema for Peace Foundation to foster awareness and action surrounding social challenges through film and the arts.
