Ernestine Ehrl, a longtime resident of Hundham, recently celebrated her 95th birthday, marking a significant milestone in her life. Originally from Aying, she has spent the past 15 years in the picturesque Gemeinde Fischbachau, where she enjoys a stunning view of the Leonhardikapelle from her living room.
Born and raised in Großhelfendorf, Ehrl experienced the challenges of growing up during the war and post-war periods, yet she fondly recalls her childhood spent among her eight siblings. At the age of 16, she attended a house economics school in Miesbach, followed by a year of employment in a Munich factory. Eventually, she returned home to assist her mother with household duties.
At 23, she married and built a life with her husband in Großhelfendorf, where they raised two sons and a daughter in what she describes as the most beautiful house in the area. However, her life took a difficult turn when her husband passed away after a battle with cancer just ten years into their marriage.
During this challenging period, Ehrl found solace in her love for music and dance. Playing the piano, a skill she developed in childhood, and participating in dance helped her regain her joy. Her affinity for church music remains strong to this day.
At the age of 80, Ehrl found love again through a newspaper advertisement, leading her to meet Kurt Lorbeer. Their connection was immediate, and she later moved in with him in Hundham, where she feels a deep sense of belonging and expressed her desire to remain there for the rest of her life.
Reflecting on her life, Ehrl conveyed a sense of satisfaction. She celebrated her birthday surrounded by family, and the local mayor, Stefan Deingruber, made a brief visit to offer his congratulations and a gift basket, which she appreciated.
This celebration not only highlights Ehrl's remarkable journey but also serves as an inspiration, showcasing resilience, love, and the importance of community ties as she embraces her 95th year.
