Bremen, Germany - A significant bomb scare has emerged in Bremen-Nord, compelling the evacuation of approximately 2,000 residents. Authorities discovered five large unexploded World War II bombs, each weighing 500 kilograms, at a former tank storage facility in Bremen Farge. Due to the extreme danger posed by these munitions, experts have determined that defusing them is not a viable option.
On Saturday, specialists assessed the situation, leading to the conclusion that any attempt to manipulate the bombs could result in an uncontrollable explosion. Consequently, the only feasible resolution is a controlled detonation.
As a precaution, a 1,000-meter evacuation zone has been established, affecting around 2,000 locals who are required to vacate their homes by noon. Starting at 8 a.m., the police will secure the area surrounding the bomb site.
To aid those displaced, the city has set up an emergency shelter at the "In den Sandwehen" secondary school. Residents without alternative accommodation can find refuge there, with shuttle services operating from the De Kreienbarg bus stop.
The countdown to the controlled explosion is set to commence with the detonation expected to occur between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. If all goes according to plan, explosives experts will employ specialized charges to ensure a safe detonation that minimizes damage to the surrounding area.
