Attack on Riyadh airport leaves at least 12 dead and over 300 injured

At least 12 people have been killed and 309 injured following an attack on an airport in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, according to local authorities. The strike comes days after Yemen's Houthi movement claimed responsibility for similar attacks.

The Saudi civil aviation authority said the dead included four Saudi nationals, two people from Bangladesh, and one person each from the United States, Jordan, Palestine, Syria, Sudan and Egypt. Operations at King Khalid International Airport have been suspended following the incident.

A Saudi-led military coalition has blamed the Houthis for the attack and described it as a war crime, vowing to respond. Fighting has recently intensified between Yemen's Saudi-backed government forces and the Houthis, who control the majority of Yemeni territory.

On the same day, a projectile reportedly landed near King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, in eastern Saudi Arabia, according to the Saudi-led coalition.

The latest attacks follow reports that three Saudis, including a pilot, were killed in two earlier attacks attributed to the Iran-backed Houthis. A further three people were reported killed in separate Houthi attacks on two Saudi airports on 6 and 7 October.

The Saudi civil aviation authority said some of those injured in the latest incident remain in critical condition.
