BR Volleys Prepare for Champions League Clash Against Lüneburg

Tue 11th Feb, 2025

The BR Volleys are gearing up for a crucial match in the Volleyball Champions League as they face SVG Lüneburg in an all-German encounter. The game, set to take place on Wednesday, is a part of the qualification for the quarter-finals, with the return match scheduled for February 26 in Berlin.

Kaweh Niroomand, the managing director of the Volleys, has outlined the team's objectives, stating that their primary goal is to secure at least two sets in the upcoming match. He expressed that achieving anything beyond this target would be a bonus. The pairing of these two top Bundesliga clubs comes as a result of the CEV's seeding after the group stage.

Despite the anticipation surrounding the match, Niroomand conveyed a sense of reluctance, noting that facing a familiar opponent from their own league is not ideal. He expressed a preference for competing against a team from another European country instead.

Team captain Ruben Schott, while acknowledging the challenges, mentioned a silver lining regarding the travel distance for the away game, which is relatively short.

This season, the BR Volleys have already faced Lüneburg three times in various national competitions, including the league cup, Bundesliga, and cup matches, winning each time with only one set lost between them. However, Niroomand underscored the need for patience and endurance when playing against Lüneburg, emphasizing that the team tends to fight back fiercely even when they are trailing.

Adding to the team's challenges, a recent bout of illness has affected player availability. Niroomand highlighted the uncertainty surrounding the lineup, indicating that the team is still evaluating who is fit to play and who may have to sit out due to health concerns.

As the match approaches, the BR Volleys are focused on their strategy and preparation, knowing that they must maintain composure and resilience against a determined Lüneburg squad.
