Passau, Bavaria - A significant controversy has erupted within the Diocese of Passau following the dismissal of a local priest due to allegations of inappropriate conduct involving minors. Bishop Stefan Oster, aged 59, addressed the media for the first time since the incident, presenting his views on the matter in a somber black clerical collar, devoid of any ornamentation or grandeur.

The bishop's comments come in the wake of his decision to prevent the affected priest from performing his duties, which has sparked considerable discussion within the community. Bishop Oster stated that he felt compelled to speak publicly about the situation, which had been weighing heavily on him for several days.

In his address, the Bishop revealed that he and the priest, Alexander Aulinger, had mutually agreed on a resignation letter following the latter's alleged misbehavior. This agreement included Aulinger's apology to his congregation, which has been a point of contention among parishioners.

Furthermore, the Bishop indicated that the involvement of Aulinger's new attorney contributed to the escalation of tensions surrounding the case. He stated that the attorney's actions led to heightened emotions and a rallying of support for Aulinger among parish members, including a notable protest by around 100 altar servers.

Dr. Holm Putzke, a criminal law professor and Aulinger's lawyer, suggested that the Bishop's attempts to manage the situation were disrupted when Aulinger chose to assert his independence. Putzke, who is providing legal assistance pro bono, expressed his dissatisfaction with the way Bishop Oster has handled the matter, stating that it is unacceptable.

In addition to the allegations of misconduct related to social gatherings with youths, Bishop Oster has accused Aulinger of spiritual manipulation and a lack of professional boundaries. Despite these claims, the local prosecutor's office reported that no criminal charges have been filed against Aulinger as of now.

The community's support for Aulinger is evident as many parishioners have rallied to defend their priest, demonstrating their loyalty and concern for his well-being during this tumultuous period.
