Sun 30th Mar, 2025

In June, the renowned Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is set to marry his fiancée Lauren Sánchez in the picturesque city of Venice. This extravagant three-day event is rumored to have raised concerns regarding its potential impact on the city's daily life.

Scheduled from June 24 to June 26, the wedding has attracted significant media attention. Bezos, who has three sons and an adopted daughter from his previous marriage to MacKenzie Scott, is embarking on his second marriage with Sánchez, a notable children's author, television personality, and entrepreneur. Sánchez also brings her own family into the union, having two children from her previous marriage and another son from a relationship with former NFL star Tony Gonzalez.

The couple began their relationship in 2018 while still married to their respective partners, leading to high-profile divorces. Reports indicate that Bezos presented Sánchez with an impressive 30-carat diamond engagement ring, valued between three and five million euros, during their engagement in May 2023. Their engagement celebration in Positano was attended by various celebrities, including Bill Gates, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Andrew Garfield.

As preparations for the wedding continue, speculation about the event's scale has led to claims that Bezos has reserved multiple luxury hotels, water taxis, and gondolas for the occasion, prompting concerns about the potential disruption to the city.

In response to these rumors, the Venetian city council has clarified that the guest list for the wedding is limited to approximately 200 individuals, asserting that the event will not significantly disrupt the city's usual activities. Officials emphasized that Venice is accustomed to managing large events, including the prestigious Venice Film Festival and major fashion shows.

Reports also suggest that the couple will reside on Bezos' lavish yacht, the Koru, during the wedding festivities, which will likely take place at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini, a historic building on San Giorgio Maggiore Island.

Celebrity attendees are expected to include familiar faces such as Eva Longoria, Katy Perry, Oprah Winfrey, and Kim Kardashian, among others. Speculation is also rife regarding the possible attendance of former President Donald Trump, adding another layer of intrigue to the event. Additionally, a private concert for the couple and their guests is anticipated, featuring Colombian pop star Shakira.

As the countdown to the wedding begins, the city of Venice remains focused on ensuring a seamless experience for both its residents and visitors, despite the influx of celebrity guests.
