Berlin's Ferry Service Launches New Season with Exciting Updates

Sat 29th Mar, 2025

The ferry services in Berlin are set to resume operations as the warmer months approach. On April 5, the seasonal lines F21 and F23 will officially commence, according to the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG). The F21 line will operate every 30 minutes, connecting Schmöckwitz to the Krampenburg peninsula, while the F23 will run hourly between Müggelwerderweg and Kruggasse.

Additionally, the year-round ferry services, including F10 (Wannsee Ferry), F11 (from Wilhelmstrand to Baumschulenstraße), and F12 (Müggelbergallee to Wassersportallee), will implement summer schedules starting on the same date.

Another highlight of the season is the Ruderfähre Paule III, known as Berlin's smallest public transport service. This rowboat will be back in service from May 1, operating on weekends and public holidays along the Müggelspree between Kruggasse and Spreewiesen, following a 60-minute schedule. The BVG emphasized that the ferry operator may increase the frequency based on passenger demand.

A significant change this year is the decision to no longer allow bicycles on the Paule III. This policy aims to enhance the comfort of passengers and reduce waiting times. The BVG noted that this adjustment has been observed in practice over the past years, where cyclists were frequently asked to consider alternative transport options on busy days. E-bikes and tandem bicycles, due to their size and weight, were already not permitted, making this a formalization of existing practices.

For cyclists wishing to cross, the nearby F23 ferry remains a viable option. As the ferry service prepares for the upcoming season, the BVG encourages all passengers to check the updated schedules and plan their journeys accordingly.
