The original rights to the drink's name were registered by Riegele in the 1950s, making the term synonymous with their product. The legal dispute was resolved three years ago, maintaining Paulaner's right to use the name domestically, but without international usage rights.

Under the new agreement, Paulaner is permitted to market and sell the beverage under the established name in a range of European countries, including Switzerland, Spain, Italy, France, and Poland.
