Rumors Emerge About Apple's New 'Vision Air' Model Following Prototype Leak

Tue 22nd Apr, 2025

Recent reports have surfaced suggesting that a collector of Apple prototypes has discovered components associated with a potential new model named 'Vision Air'. This leak raises questions about whether Apple plans to introduce a lighter and more user-friendly headset.

The current Vision Pro headset has faced criticism for its substantial weight and size, alongside its high price point of nearly 4000 Euros. Users have expressed frustrations regarding the headset's design and the cumbersome nature of its external battery. The rumored 'Vision Air' aims to address these issues, as indicated by the details and images shared by the collector.

According to the leak, the new model may feature a darker color variant, described as a 'graphite-like dark blue,' which could be branded as 'Midnight Black' by Apple. The internal structure of the device is expected to utilize titanium to reduce weight, while the outer casing will likely remain aluminum but with a revamped surface finish. Images released show a new bayonet-style connector for the battery, which deviates from the current design.

One notable change is the alteration of the battery connector, which has transitioned from a twelve-pin configuration to eight pins. This modification suggests that Apple may have reengineered the battery, potentially making it smaller while still maintaining the external battery concept. Interestingly, competitors such as Samsung are reportedly exploring similar strategies.

As speculation continues, there are discussions about a second version of the Vision Pro, potentially featuring an M5 system-on-chip, expected to launch in late 2025 or early 2026. It remains uncertain whether the 'Vision Air' will be marketed alongside this upcoming model or if it will serve as a standalone product. With only one generation of the Vision Pro released so far, Apple's strategy for subsequent models is still unclear.

Despite the excitement surrounding these rumors, the demand for the current Vision Pro has reportedly declined, leading to a slowdown in production. As Apple navigates its future product lines, the tech community eagerly awaits official announcements regarding the Vision series and its innovations in augmented reality.
