Apple Now Offers iPhone 16e Replacement Parts for DIY Repairs

Apple has expanded its Self-Service Repair Program (SSRP) to include replacement parts for the newly released iPhone 16e. This initiative allows users to attempt repairs on their devices using official components directly from Apple.

Launched at the end of March, the iPhone 16e now joins earlier models such as the iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max in the SSRP, which is available in the United States and several European nations. Customers can visit the Self-Service Repair Store online to select their device model and the specific parts they need, which are categorized into various sections including battery, camera, display, rear glass, speakers, Taptic Engine, microphones, and more. Notably, main circuit boards are not available for purchase.

Alongside the replacement parts, Apple provides a range of tools necessary for repairs, from high-quality screwdrivers to specialized equipment for opening the screen and correctly installing the battery. Users also have the option to rent more expensive tools or complete kits if they do not intend to perform frequent repairs. The layout of the repair store is designed for ease of navigation, allowing customers to find both parts and tools in a straightforward manner.

Crucial to the self-repair process are the comprehensive manuals that Apple has made available online for all products eligible for SSRP, including the iPhone 16e. These manuals are designed to be user-friendly and are available in multiple languages, including German. They guide users through the repair process and assist in diagnosing any issues, enhancing users' understanding of their devices' internal structure.

Before purchasing replacement parts, it is advisable for customers to determine whether the issue with their iPhone 16e is due to user error or falls under warranty coverage. If the device is still under warranty, Apple will handle repairs at no cost. For those who have purchased AppleCare+ coverage, standard repairs can be completed for a nominal fee. Apple is known for its leniency regarding battery issues, so contacting customer service prior to making a purchase is recommended. Replacement part prices can be steep; for instance, a single display, including screws, is priced at EUR269. However, Apple offers a trade-in credit of EUR13.45 for returning a defective screen.
