Apple Activates Visual Intelligence for iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max

Mon 7th Apr, 2025

Apple has expanded access to its Visual Intelligence feature, previously exclusive to the iPhone 16 series, to older models including the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. This move allows users to leverage advanced AI capabilities for enhanced interaction with their devices.

Visual Intelligence utilizes the iPhone's camera to gather and interpret information about the user's surroundings. The feature has recently been updated to include functionalities such as calendar management, text translations, and summarization. Initially, it was accessible only through the new camera controls introduced with the iPhone 16 models, which the iPhone 15 series lacks. However, with the release of iOS 18.4, Apple has enabled this feature for the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max without hardware limitations.

Users can now assign Visual Intelligence to the action button on their devices. By navigating to the system settings and selecting 'Visual Intelligence' under the action button options, users can activate the feature effortlessly, bypassing the need for camera control. Alternatively, the function can be accessed via the Control Center, where a dedicated icon for Apple Intelligence and Siri is now available, allowing for quick access to this feature.

The iPhone 16e had earlier access to Visual Intelligence before the iOS 18.4 update, making the inclusion of this functionality for the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max a straightforward decision for Apple. This update also marks the first time Apple has released its AI framework, Apple Intelligence, which underpins Visual Intelligence.

In the United States, Visual Intelligence has already facilitated various tasks, such as making restaurant reservations and placing food delivery orders. It is expected that these capabilities will continue to grow and evolve in future updates. However, it is important to note that the current implementation does not support analyzing existing images; the camera must actively capture new images or focus on live subjects.

As Apple continues to enhance its AI offerings, users can anticipate a more integrated experience as additional features are rolled out. The advancements in Visual Intelligence not only reflect Apple's commitment to innovation but also signify a broader trend in mobile technology where artificial intelligence plays a crucial role in improving user interaction and accessibility.
