Andrew Scott Recalls Painful Experience at SAG Awards

Mon 24th Feb, 2025

Andrew Scott, the acclaimed actor known for his role in 'Fleabag', recently shared a harrowing experience he endured during the 2020 Screen Actors Guild Awards. The event took a painful turn for Scott when he suffered from a kidney stone, leading to an unexpected hospital visit.

During this year's SAG Awards, Scott recounted the incident that remains vivid in his memory. He was nominated for his portrayal in 'Ripley', but the night is overshadowed by the discomfort he experienced five years prior. As the ceremony progressed, Scott found himself seated next to Phoebe Waller-Bridge when Laura Dern won the award for Best Supporting Actress. Amid the applause from the audience, Scott suddenly felt an intense pain.

As Dern began her acceptance speech, Scott described his struggle to remain composed. The pain intensified, prompting him to discreetly leave the room. Once backstage, he found himself in excruciating agony and quickly removed his tuxedo in a desperate attempt to find relief.

Fortunately, Waller-Bridge, a fellow actor and friend, noticed his distress and brought him water. Despite the chaos, Scott was aware of his condition, having previously dealt with kidney stones. However, the severity of the episode warranted medical attention, and a paramedic team was summoned to assist him.

This memorable incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of live events and the challenges performers may face, even on what should be a celebratory night. At this year's ceremony, Scott's nomination for 'Best Actor in a Movie or Miniseries' ultimately went to Colin Farrell.

The SAG Awards, while honoring outstanding performances in film and television, often create lasting memories beyond the accolades. For Scott, it was a night marked by both recognition and an unexpected health crisis.
