Airbnb Implements Global Display of Total Prices Including Additional Fees

Wed 23rd Apr, 2025

Airbnb has announced a significant update to its platform, now displaying the total price of accommodations, inclusive of all additional fees, directly in the search results worldwide. This change aims to enhance transparency and facilitate easier comparisons for users searching for lodging.

The platform emphasizes that this initiative is designed to provide clearer pricing information to guests. By showcasing the total price upfront, Airbnb believes it will allow hosts to optimize their pricing strategies more effectively, as the complete cost will be a critical factor in the decision-making process for potential renters.

This move follows a previous adjustment made in 2019, when Airbnb began displaying all mandatory fees and taxes in search results across parts of Europe in response to requests from the European Commission. However, the new global rollout does not guarantee uniform pricing in every location, as some countries may still exclude local taxes from the displayed total.

Previously, the total price display was already available in regions such as Australia, Canada, and South Korea, while it was offered as an option in the United States and various other countries. The timing of this worldwide implementation aligns with an upcoming regulation from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in the United States, which prohibits misleading pricing practices, suggesting that Airbnb's previous pricing display may have been in violation of this new rule.

As travelers increasingly seek transparency in pricing, this enhancement by Airbnb reflects a broader trend within the hospitality industry aimed at fostering trust and clarity in the booking process.
