Munich. The documentary film festival DOK.FEST starts on Wednesday, 25th of May in Gasteig. A total number of 72 works from countries such as Afghanistan, Japan and Cyprus, will be presented in Munich this year.
The festival offers to have a look at countries around the world. The festival, in which many directors present their films themselves, will open on Wednesday evening with the documentary on "Mountain Prince" by Philip Vogt about a family clan in Albania.
The focus of this year's documentary festival is Africa. The African series of eleven films will be accompanied by several events including a discussion on "Africa in the news" on Friday, with documentary filmmakers from Africa and Germany. Players of FC Bayern and Gerd Muller will open the series on Monday, the 10th of May. The video artist Magdalena Hutter will lead the visitors through the desert in her exibition "Triptych".
The highlight of the festival is the awards ceremony on 11th May, including the prize of 10,000'‚¬ for the Documentary Film Award in the international series, and the Bavarian Film Award Authority for New Media award of 5000'‚¬. After the end of the festival, several films will be shown during the cinema tour of Bavaria.
