In the early hours of Wednesday, police in Wolfsburg apprehended two individuals attempting to steal copper cables. Authorities observed a heavily overloaded VW Sharan traveling on the L297 towards the A2 and decided to conduct a vehicle inspection.

Upon examination, officers discovered high-voltage copper cables along with various tools inside the vehicle. This led to suspicions that the cables may have been illicitly obtained, resulting in the provisional arrest of the two occupants, aged 24 and 37.

Further investigations revealed that the cables had been stolen from a construction site located on Nelkenweg during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. In response to these findings, the Braunschweig Public Prosecutor's Office submitted a request for pre-trial detention.

On Thursday morning, the suspects were presented before the Wolfsburg District Court, which subsequently ordered their detention pending trial. Following this decision, the two men were transferred to correctional facilities.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding theft in the region, particularly the targeting of construction sites for valuable materials like copper. The local police have reiterated their commitment to curbing such criminal activities and ensuring the safety and security of businesses and construction projects within Wolfsburg.
