An aircraft crash in the town of Ganderkesee, Lower Saxony, resulted in the deaths of two individuals and significant damage to a residential property. The incident occurred shortly before 11:00 a.m. when a light aircraft descended and collided with the roof structure of a house on Stettiner Weg, a residential street near Oldenburg.
According to initial reports, the aircraft, a Tecnam P 2010 TDI with four seats, lost altitude and struck the upper section of the home at approximately 10:56 a.m. The impact caused the cockpit to be destroyed, with the wings breaking off and debris scattering in the vicinity. The force of the crash was audible throughout the neighborhood, prompting local residents to alert emergency services.
Emergency responders, including fire and police units, arrived promptly. The area around the crash site was cordoned off, and homes within a 100-meter radius were evacuated as a precautionary measure. The airspace above the location was also temporarily restricted to facilitate rescue and recovery operations. Firefighters utilized aerial ladders to access the damaged sections of the building and began a methodical search for survivors.
One fatality was discovered in the wreckage soon after emergency crews commenced their response. However, authorities believed that a second individual had also been in the aircraft at the time of the accident. Search operations continued for several hours, with drones deployed to assist in locating the missing person. The aircraft had become lodged within the house, complicating recovery efforts.
In the early afternoon, a crane was brought in to attempt the removal of the wreckage from the roof. Initial attempts were unsuccessful due to the aircraft being stuck within the building's stairwell. By approximately 4:40 p.m., crews succeeded in extracting the plane, at which point the second victim was found deceased inside the fuselage. The process of recovering the bodies began shortly thereafter.
The residential property involved was unoccupied at the time, as the family residing there was reportedly on vacation. Structural engineers have been called to assess the stability of the building and determine whether it will be safe for the family to return in the future. The extent of the damage has raised concerns about potential structural compromise.
Flight data indicates that the Tecnam P 2010 TDI departed from Bremen in the morning, made a brief stop at the Ganderkesee airfield, and then took off again. Approximately six minutes after resuming flight, the crash occurred. The Ganderkesee airfield is well-regarded among business travelers and recreational pilots due to its strategic position between Bremen and Oldenburg.
In recent years, the region has experienced similar incidents. Notably, two years ago, a light aircraft crashed into a field near Ganderkesee following an engine failure, resulting in serious injuries to the pilot but no fatalities.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the most recent accident. Technical experts and aviation safety officials are examining the wreckage and reviewing flight data to determine the factors that led to the loss of altitude and the subsequent collision with the residential building. Further updates are expected as the inquiry progresses.
