Weather Forecast: Snow and Ice Conditions Expected Across Germany

Wed 12th Feb, 2025

Germany is bracing for wintry weather as a low-pressure system moves in, bringing snow and potential icy conditions to various regions. According to the German Weather Service (DWD), significant snowfall is anticipated, particularly in the Alpine areas, where accumulations could reach up to 20 centimeters by Friday evening.

As we move into mid-February, the transition from rain to snow is expected to occur, especially in the southern parts of the country. The DWD has indicated that the snow line will lower to the plains, with some areas in eastern and northeastern Germany likely to see a few centimeters of snow accumulation.

Drivers are advised to exercise caution as icy patches could develop on the roads. Temperature highs will vary from minus one degree Celsius in the northeast to plus nine degrees Celsius along the Hochrhein region. Parts of eastern Germany may experience continued frost as the weekend approaches.

Looking ahead, the forecast suggests that while some snow may linger, particularly in the Alpine regions on Friday, other areas will see a mix of clouds and sun. The northeastern regions may still experience isolated snow showers, while the rest of the country is expected to remain mostly dry. Maximum temperatures will range from minus one to plus five degrees Celsius.

As the weekend progresses, an increase in sunshine is predicted, with decreasing precipitation. However, isolated snow showers may still occur, particularly near the Baltic Sea. The DWD emphasizes the importance of staying informed about the evolving weather conditions as winter weather continues to affect travel and daily activities across the nation.
