Weather Forecast: Meteorologists Predict Significant Temperature Drop This Weekend

Fri 4th Apr, 2025

As warmer spring-like weather gives way to a notable chill, meteorologists are advising residents to prepare for a significant drop in temperatures this weekend. Following one of the warmest days of the year, with temperatures reaching up to 24 degrees Celsius on Friday, a cold air mass is expected to sweep across many parts of Germany.

Sebastian Schappert from the German Weather Service (DWD) mentioned that while some areas will experience a welcomed rain, it will largely remain scarce. Additionally, nighttime frosts are anticipated, with temperatures plummeting to as low as minus four degrees for those who have already begun gardening activities. Gardeners are therefore advised to take precautions to protect their plants from the impending cold.

According to the DWD, Saturday will see reduced sunshine, particularly in the northern and eastern regions, where overcast skies will dominate. High temperatures in these areas are only expected to reach between 8 and 14 degrees Celsius. In contrast, the southwestern regions will experience slightly warmer conditions, with temperatures between 16 and 21 degrees, and potentially up to 23 degrees along the Upper Rhine.

By Sunday, the cooler weather will affect all regions, with maximum temperatures in the eastern and central parts of Germany dropping to between 6 and 10 degrees, while other areas may see highs of 10 to 14 degrees. Nighttime temperatures will also decline significantly, with some locations facing light frosts, potentially dropping to minus five degrees, and even minus seven degrees along the Elbe.

As the new week begins, the DWD forecasts minimal changes in the weather. The conditions will remain variably cloudy, with occasional sunny intervals, but precipitation is expected to be minimal. However, temperatures are projected to gradually increase over the week, with Friday potentially seeing highs of around 20 degrees once again.
