The Carnival season is reaching its peak, and revelers are eager to know what the weather will bring. According to meteorological experts, sunshine is on the horizon for most festivities.
Those planning to celebrate Carnival this weekend can leave their umbrellas at home, as Sunday is anticipated to be a bright day, especially in regions known for their parades. Christian Herold from the German Weather Service (DWD) notes that while Friday may start off with cool showers, including sleet and light snowfall in the mountains, temperatures will range from 4 to 9 degrees Celsius. Fortunately, this wintry weather won't linger long, as a high-pressure system is expected to stabilize conditions by the weekend.
On Saturday, the DWD forecasts some rain or snow in the eastern mountain regions and the Alps. However, as the day progresses, the weather will clear up, with most areas remaining dry. High temperatures will vary between 3 and 8 degrees, dropping to around 0 degrees in higher-altitude areas.
By Sunday, the weather is expected to improve significantly. Although dense fog may initially blanket parts of the Cologne area, it is predicted to dissipate quickly, giving way to bright sunshine. Along the Rhine, many locations will bask in sunny conditions with peak temperatures reaching approximately 10 degrees Celsius in cities like Cologne and Mainz. Rain is not expected to disrupt the festivities. In contrast, northern regions will experience cloudier skies and cooler temperatures, with highs around 4 degrees at the coast and in the mountains.
For those planning to enjoy the celebrations into the night, it is advisable to wear warmer clothing, as temperatures could drop to minus 3 degrees overnight leading into Monday. The DWD assures that Carnival-goers will be greeted by delightful weather on Rosenmontag, with maximum temperatures ranging from 10 to 12 degrees. The southern regions can look forward to spring-like temperatures of up to 15 degrees in the following week, while the northern areas may have overcast skies persisting until at least Thursday.
