In Berlin-Kreuzberg, a pro-Palestinian demonstration escalated into violence, resulting in a police officer sustaining serious injuries. The event was organized to commemorate Nakba Day, which marks the displacement of Palestinians following the establishment of Israel.

According to police reports, tensions rose as demonstrators clashed with law enforcement, leading to a chaotic scene. An officer was reportedly pulled into the crowd and trampled, requiring immediate medical intervention. Emergency services provided oxygen and pain relief before transporting the officer to a hospital, where further assessment revealed possible serious injuries, including broken bones for at least one other officer involved.

Over 30 individuals were arrested during the event for various offenses, including assault against police personnel. Witness accounts describe an aggressive atmosphere, with demonstrators throwing cans, bottles, and stones at law enforcement officers. Additionally, some participants sprayed police with red paint.

In response to the escalating violence, police deployed a water cannon as a tactical measure, although specific details regarding this decision were not disclosed. The demonstration attracted approximately 1,100 participants, many of whom were seen wearing Palestinian scarves and displaying flags and other symbols associated with Palestinian identity.

Berlin's Mayor, Kai Wegner, condemned the violence directed at police, labeling the attack on the officer as a cowardly act of brutality. He emphasized that aggression towards law enforcement is an assault on the rule of law, which affects the entire community. He further stated that while Berlin is a diverse and open city, those who misuse the right to protest to incite hatred or commit violent acts will be met with firm legal action.

Nakba Day, observed on May 15, serves as a poignant reminder of the mass displacement experienced by many Palestinians during the first Arab-Israeli war in 1948. As tensions remain high in the region, the events in Berlin reflect broader global sentiments surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
