Vattenfall Announces 8% Electricity Price Increase in Berlin

Thu 17th Apr, 2025

In a recent announcement, Vattenfall, the energy provider in Berlin, has confirmed an increase in electricity prices effective July. The hike amounts to 8%, resulting in an additional cost of approximately EUR6.86 per month for an average household consuming 2,200 kilowatt-hours annually.

The primary reason cited for this price adjustment is the rise in network fees imposed by the state-owned electricity grid company, which significantly contributes to the overall electricity pricing structure.

Starting in July, the basic supply costs will rise from the current rate of 41.41 cents per kilowatt-hour to 44.39 cents. Additionally, the fixed monthly base charge will increase from EUR9.50 to EUR10.90. However, customers who are currently on special tariffs with guaranteed pricing will not see any changes to their rates.

Vattenfall plans to inform affected customers directly in May regarding these upcoming price changes. This marks the second price increase for Vattenfall since February 2023, reflecting ongoing adjustments in the energy market.

As energy costs continue to fluctuate, consumers are encouraged to stay informed about their energy options and potential savings. The increase in electricity rates may impact household budgets, prompting residents to consider alternative energy plans or energy-saving measures to mitigate the effects of rising costs.
