Vandalism Strikes New Sports Facility in North Rhine-Westphalia

Erwitte, North Rhine-Westphalia - A shocking act of vandalism has marred a new sports facility in the small town of Erwitte, located in the Soest district. Unidentified individuals have contaminated the recently constructed sports field with dog feces, raising concerns among local authorities and residents.

The newly built facility, situated at the Hellweghalle sports center, was set to open shortly after its completion. However, the vandalism came to light during a routine inspection around February 7, when staff discovered that over 30 piles of dog waste had been scattered across the synthetic turf.

City spokesperson Christoph Koerdt reported that the culprits gained unauthorized access to the site and deliberately spread the feces, with some portions trodden into the artificial grass. In response, the city has filed a criminal complaint for trespassing and property damage.

Fortunately for the city, recent winter weather conditions have aided in the cleanup process, as the partially frozen waste could be removed by hand or swept away. However, just as the field was restored, the perpetrators returned to repeat their destructive actions.

Police spokesperson Nils Vollmer confirmed that there are currently no leads on the suspects or their motives. He urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the Lippstadt police department at 02941 91000.

Koerdt emphasized that there is no apparent opposition to the facility, which represents a significant benefit for local schools, sports clubs, and the broader community. The construction project, which cost approximately 1.9 million euros, is designed to provide year-round access to the sports field. Koerdt expressed disappointment at the vandalism, describing it as a senseless act of malice.

Local sports clubs and the city are hopeful that the disturbances will cease soon, especially with a home match for SV Westfalia Erwitte scheduled for March 9, marking the first time players will utilize the field. The community is eager to see the facility achieve its intended purpose without further interference.
