Renowned actor Uwe Ochsenknecht is set to enchant audiences as he voices the beloved character of Papa Smurf in the upcoming animated movie, The Smurfs: The Great Movie, which is scheduled for release on July 17. Ochsenknecht, now 69, has expressed a deep connection with the character, noting that Papa Smurf embodies a youthful spirit that he can relate to.
In a recent interview, Ochsenknecht shared insights into his character, emphasizing that age is merely a number. He believes in maintaining a childlike curiosity and staying engaged with the world, regardless of one's age. His approach to life is one of enthusiasm and participation, rather than resignation to age.
In this new cinematic adventure, Papa Smurf is not just a wise leader but also takes on a fun, musical role as he steps behind the DJ booth, encouraging the Smurfs to dance and celebrate. Ochsenknecht reminisced about his early passion for music and DJing, recalling his teenage years spent dreaming of captivating audiences on the dance floor.
While Ochsenknecht embraces his role as Papa Smurf, he playfully suggested that if he were to embody another character in the Smurf universe, he would choose to be the 'Ochsschlumpf'--a humorous twist on his persona, complete with horns and a bold demeanor.
Joining Ochsenknecht in the German version of the film are notable voices, including singer Àlvaro Soler portraying No Name Smurf and Rick Kavanian voicing the dual roles of the sorcerers Gargamel and Razamel. Additionally, the character of Smurfette will be voiced and sung by Patricia Meeden, while the original version features pop sensation Rihanna, who contributes music to the film, including her new track "Friend of Mine."
With a star-studded cast and an engaging storyline, The Smurfs: The Great Movie aims to bring a fresh perspective to the beloved franchise, appealing to both long-time fans and new audiences alike.
