Sunken boat found in Chiemsee
After 28 years of lying in the depths of Chiemsee, approximately 120 km from Munich, an American military boat was finally discovered after a routine trip to the bottom of the lake. A sonar device sounded out the discovery last Wednesday, as being a boat dropped from a US helicopter on a military exercise in 1984.
According to the dpa, it was after the data from the solar device had been analysed, that the Wasserpolizei - water police - realised something unidentified was lying on the lakebed, at a depth of 25 metres. In order to minimise damage to the immediate environment, the sunken boat, which was equipped with an outboard motor and two full fuel tanks, will be secured and salvaged on Tuesday.
