Rising Concerns Over Recession Prompt U.S. Government to Stand Firm on Tariffs

The U.S. government is defending its recent decision to impose the highest import tariffs since the 1940s amidst growing fears of a potential recession. Officials have attempted to reassure the American public, who, according to surveys, largely oppose high tariffs, that the economic outlook remains stable.

However, trade advisors have indicated skepticism, suggesting that Vietnam has employed trade barriers and serves as a conduit for Chinese exports aiming to evade tariffs.

Trade advisor Kevin Hassett assessed the situation, noting that foreign nations are aware of the tariffs' financial implications and that American consumers are unlikely to experience significant effects.
