A significant infrastructure project aimed at enhancing the electricity supply in Brandenburg is set to officially commence. The Uckermark power line, a 380-kilovolt high-voltage connection stretching between Bertikow, Vierraden, Neuenhagen, and Pasewalk, has been identified by the energy provider 50Hertz as a crucial development for the region's energy transition.
This new power line is expected to improve the transport capacity for renewable energy, alleviate network bottlenecks, and strengthen the European electricity grid through its connection to Poland, as stated by the utility company. The official inauguration is scheduled for Monday at 12:00 PM at the Regional Center in Neuenhagen, near Berlin.
Notable attendees at the inauguration will include high-profile guests such as Michael Kellner, the Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, alongside Daniel Keller, the Minister for Economic Affairs in Brandenburg, and Wolfgang Blank, the Minister for Economic Affairs in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
According to 50Hertz, the Uckermark line spans 115 kilometers and operates at a voltage of 380,000 volts, allowing for the efficient transport of electric energy over considerable distances. This includes supplying power to major substations and consumer centers. The term 'overhead line' refers to the design of the power lines, which are supported by masts above ground.
The development of the Uckermark power line is a vital step in the broader context of Germany's energy transition (Energiewende), which aims to shift towards sustainable energy sources and reduce dependency on fossil fuels. As more renewable energy sources are integrated into the grid, the need for robust infrastructure becomes increasingly important.
The inauguration of this power line marks a significant milestone in enhancing the electricity infrastructure in the region, and it is anticipated to support the ongoing efforts to meet Germany's ambitious climate goals.
