Köselitz, Saxony-Anhalt - A significant traffic incident occurred on the A9 motorway on Thursday morning when a tanker truck transporting an impressive 25,000 liters of beer overturned. As a result, the road heading towards Munich was completely closed, leading to substantial delays for motorists.

The 57-year-old driver of the articulated lorry had just passed the Rosselquelle-West rest area shortly after 7 AM when the accident took place near the Köselitz exit. According to initial reports, the truck veered off the roadway to the left, ultimately tipping over and coming to rest on its side across the lane.

Emergency services quickly responded to the scene, working to extricate the driver, who sustained serious head injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Fortunately, there were no other vehicles involved in the incident, minimizing the potential for additional casualties.

The A9 was closed entirely in the direction of Munich to facilitate the recovery of the overturned truck. Authorities redirected vehicles at the Köselitz exit, although a few were allowed to proceed cautiously via the emergency lane. The estimated damage from the accident is approximately EUR80,000, primarily attributed to the truck and the spillage of its contents.

This incident highlights the risks associated with transporting large quantities of hazardous materials on busy roadways. The authorities are working diligently to clear the scene and restore normal traffic flow. Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes while the cleanup continues.

As the investigation unfolds, more information will be released regarding the cause of the accident and the condition of the driver.
